Back in February this year, we shared some organic and/or natural perfumes here on Happy Magazine. One of the brands we featured was Waters + Wild – a collection of organic and natural products made in small batches in West Cork. Today I want to share my experience with their Rose + Oud perfume with you. We also have a giveaway!
Before my own cancer diagnosis, I loved perfumes, maybe not as much as the next girl, but I had a fairly sizeable collection of scents that I had bought over the years or had been gifted for birthdays, etc. I loved Gucci Rush, Dolce & Gabbana’s Light Blue and my all-time, every-occasion Chanel No. 5.
Fast forward through my cancer diagnosis and chemo, to the phase where I threw EVERYTHING out to start again with clean beauty brands. While there is no concrete evidence to say that perfumes are unhealthy, I was going through a complete overhaul of my life and this included my dressing table. I felt more in control of my situation if I knew exactly what was in the products I was using on my body.
So, yes, the perfumes went. I didn’t bin them as that would have been a terrible waste – but I donated them to a charity shop and they were glad to receive them. The only one that I didn’t ditch was my beloved Chanel. That, I could not bear to part with. Instead, I reasoned, I would keep it for special occasions.
When we posted the piece back in February regarding some natural and/or organic perfume options then, I was delighted altogether to hear of some clean beauty brand options for perfume. Perfume is just such a lovely self-care ritual – an instant lift to personal confidence and mood – and I was missing it terribly!
After our post went up, the team at Waters + Wild got in touch with us and offered to send us a Rose + Oud perfume to try, and one of their Facial Serum‘s to giveaway to one lucky reader. Well, we (me) were just delighted! Over the past few months I have indeed been enjoying my Rose + Oud – it lives in my handbag in it’s little linen drawstring bag and it comes absolutely everywhere with me. Whenever I need a little lift in confidence or mood – out it comes and it is pressed into service (literally!).
About the Rose + Oud eau de parfum
Described on the Waters + Wild website as:
Rich and deep. Rose petals harvested at dawn when their perfume is at its strongest, combined with rare, exotic and woody oud giving it a mysterious sensual depth.
My experience? I think the Rose + Oud is a real achievement for a natural and organic fragrance. It is not cloying or overpowering, rather it is just the right balance of delicate and feminine. It is fresh, revitalising and light to wear – you will not be choking in a cloud of perfume, nor will it leave a powerful trail behind you as some perfumes do. This is soft, gentle femininity in a beautiful glass bottle.
It is made with organic rose otto (rose petals) and oud, a sweet and earthy resin from the bark of the Agar wood tree, often called liquid gold in perfume making.
I absolutely love it and it is helping me feel like a woman again. After so long not wearing perfume I am delighted to have the beautiful Rose + Oud from Waters + Wild as an option once more.
