Natasha Whelehan joins us today with a book review of The Stress Solution by Dr Rangan Chatterjee.
I really enjoyed Dr Rangan Chatterjee’s first book, The Four Pillar Plan (you can read my review of that here), so I was really looking forward to his latest book, The Stress Solution. I’m happy to say it did not disappoint.
I listened to the book on Audible, and have kept it downloaded in my ‘Library’ so I can dip in and out of it again as I want to.
This is a really easy-to-read (or listen to) book. Like the first book of his, this one focuses on 4 key areas, this time in relation to stress, and offers suggestions and approaches for tackling each of these areas.
I really liked that this book, like his first, is not a set ‘plan’. There is no rigid sequence of steps to follow. Instead the book is filled with relevant and up-to-date information in relation to stress, alongside really useful suggestions for reducing and managing our daily stress levels.
Information on sleep, diet and exercise can be found as well as thought-provoking chapters on technology and the power of human touch. He also introduces what he calls the LIVE framework, a way to help bring meaning and purpose to your life.
One of my favourite of his suggestions involves trying to establish a morning routine, something I have been working on building into my own life.
I also really liked what he calls the 3 Habits of Calm:
- Affirmations
- Reframing (my favourite! I have taken to using this technique a LOT)
- Gratitude
The book really got me thinking too. I found the chapters on technology and its impact on our lives and stress levels sobering to be honest, and it really made me think more about my own relationship with my phone.
Have I followed all of the suggestions in the book? No, I haven’t and this is the beauty of this book. I don’t have to implement ALL of the changes suggested to see meaningful change in my life. I have implemented some though, and I aim to implement more.
I found this a really useful book, that can benefit anyone seeking to manage their stress levels through often simple lifestyle changes.
