We came across Kayla’s Kitchen in this month’s issue of IMAGE magazine and we’re so glad we did. We think their business idea is just fantastic and in particular so helpful for anyone going through cancer or a serious injury or illness.
Kayla’s Kitchen cook, freeze and deliver healthy meals nationwide, so you, or your loved ones, don’t have to.
Kayla’s Kitchen was inspired by husband and wife Emmett and Paula’s daughter Kayla.
Kayla is a 10 year old girl with a neuro-developmental disorder called Rett Syndrome. Kayla’s Dad, Emmett, has been her full-time carer for the past six years. In that time, through continuous research and working with nutritionists and dieticians at The National Children’s Hospital in Tallaght, he has learned the nutritional and functional benefits of a whole variety of foods.
Looking after a busy household with Kayla’s mum Paula traveling for work, Emmett found batch cooking to be the simplest way to manage a young family along with a child of very special needs without compromising on taste or nutritional value. Soon after starting, Kayla’s Kitchen began providing delicious meals for friends and family.
Kayla’s uncle Karl, who recently passed away from Motor Neuron Disease, used the delivery service during the last few years of his life. This gave him the independence he needed to stay in his own home until just before he passed. Kayla’s grandparents who are in their eighties eat from Kayla’s Kitchen everyday. They order every two weeks, taking away the stress and hassle of having to plan, shop and cook for themselves every evening.
Emmett and Paula’s aim now is to open Kayla’s Kitchen up to others who may benefit from ready made meals of great quality food.
Just when I thought I was recovering from having breast cancer I fell and fractured my pelvis. I am in a wheelchair for 3 months and can’t drive, let alone cook. I have been ordering from Kayla’s Kitchen as I still want to eat healthy home cooked meals but I really wanted to have a variety of foods.

Kayla’s Kitchen is approved by Kayla (she has a very discerning palette for a 10 year old!) and by the Tallaght Hospital Diet Clinic, endorsed by her Consultant Paediatrician, Denise McDonald.
One of the many traits of Rett Syndrome is that Kayla does not absorb nutrients as well as the rest of us. She requires the very best diet and nutrition to keep her healthy and happy. Kayla taste tests all the Kayla’s Kitchen dishes meaning the food is the highest quality, suitable for all food-lovers but more importantly; the vulnerable in society with low immune systems.
Emmett and Paula believe not having to worry about meal-times means there is more time for living.
Kayla’s Kitchen have a wide variety of meal choices – starters, mains and sides – so you can stock the freezer for the whole week. Emmett is inspired by international cooking styles, so you can try something new every day if you like – no more food fatigue!
