Elfreda McGowan is back with us today with a review of Dr. Hauschka’s Almond Soothing Body Cream. This is a high quality product to try if you’re looking for a new, more natural alternative to your usual body cream.
I’ve been using Dr. Hauschka’s Almond Soothing Body Cream daily for the past while, and have just finished the tube. My skin was quite dehydrated, a bit sensitive and generally in need of a good injection of hydration.
From the Dr. Hauschka website we can be assured that their products are:
- Truly 100% natural cosmetics and/or organic cosmetics, certified to NATRUE standard
- Free from synthetic fragrances, dyes and preservatives
- Free from mineral oils, silicone and PEG
- Dermatologically tested for sensitive skin
- Never tested on animals
- Wherever possible, all raw materials come from controlled organic or biodynamic cultivation and are recovered under fair conditions.
Regarding the Almond Soothing Cream in particular, the Dr. Hauschka website says it calms and balances; awakens the mind and nurtures the senses. The soft, floral scent of the almond blossom evokes thoughts of the early days of spring, the warm and sensual hints of the almond fruit whisk us away into the colourful life of the Italian summer. Almond kernel oil blended with extracts of soothing St. John’s Wort and balancing anthyllis smoothes, calms and fortifies dry, sensitive skin. Quince and marshmallow extracts balance moisture content, leaving the skin soft to the touch.
That’s the lowdown from their website, but what did I think?
The first thing I noticed was the beautiful smell of almond – I loved it! I know scent isn’t everything but I love when natural products smell really good, and this cream definitely won’t let you down there. The almond isn’t overpowering, it’s warm and luxurious and I could smell it from my skin all day, like a lovely powdery almond, even after hours had gone by since I’d last applied it.
I found the texture to be non-sticky, moisturising and it sank in really quickly. My skin, especially on my legs, was a bit dehydrated and easily aggravated and after a week or so of using it daily, I really felt my skin was more nurtured and less dry. It also kept getting better and became less reactive and itchy.
If I had to say one slightly negative thing, it would be about the tube its packaged in – it’s quite flimsy, and I found I squeezed out more than I needed at times, so I would be aware of that when using it. I think it’s packaged like this so you can really get the last bit of product out of the tube though, so there is a good side.
The cost is €25.55 for 145ml. I think the price tag is very fair given the ingredients and the brand’s commitment to ‘support the healing of humanity and the earth’ with regards to the company’s culture, business practices, production methods and the very nature of the company’s products themselves. You really are in good hands with Dr. Hauschka and this product genuinely does what it says it will – it hydrates and soothes dry sensitive skin, all while wrapping you in a cloud of powdery almond! Lovely! Rating 9/10
